Negrohead Mountains??

I just read this article on www.thegrio.com about a set of Santa Monica Moutains names Negrohead Mountain; which were named after a Black pioneer; John Ballard whom lived at the base of the mountains after being freed from slavery. At first it was referred to as "N-word ballad hill" but over time just became "N-word Hill then eventually Negrohead Mountains..WTF!!?? I live in California and I have never heard about these mountains nor the Black pioneer. At least people decided to fight for a cause that was worth fighting!! Big Ups to them and Mr. John Ballard!!
